Review date: 05-15-2013

Description:  Lake Tahoe Fishing Tahoe Topliners Sportfishing always attempts to use high quality equipment at an affordable price point. We do this so when clients and anglers who step off the vessel and like what we used can go to purchase with out having sticker shock and to help drive sales for the company's that help us! Recently we reviewed the Abu line counter 6500 reels and now its time to talk about what we pair them with! We have chosen the Fenwick HMX rods to use as they are very affordable but high quality and perfect action for our intended use. We run three models on board   HMX-C66M-F (1274844) 10 ...

Scatter Rap

Rating:

Review date: 04-17-2013

Description:  Lake Tahoe Fishing Tahoe Topliners Capt. Mike Nielsen has been Pro Staffing on Rapala for 4 years now and with that we are allowed to test and fish new release products before others. Recently Rapala released the new Scatter Series minows baits in 4 different models, the Minnow, the crankbait, the Shad Rap, and the countdown models. We have been playing with the Countdown and Minnow models and find the new erratic ,evasive action draws strikes 3 to 1 over the standard models. Added to that the release of some new colors and you got the age old dilema of "I gotta have it"!  The lures seem to really come to life at trolling speeds of 3 to 3.5 mph and with our longer Tahoe style long setbacks the F11 Scatter minnow is hitting depths of 12 plus feet. The Ayu pattern is a great sucker fish immitator and has been lethal off the Downriggers for Lakers and also Rainbows.  The CD 7 in Silver/Black with Suffix 832 Braid and 10 lb Flouro leaders and you have a setup for the upcoming California Trout opener that is going to bring full stringers to anglers everywhere. Toss in your favorite scent which for us ...

Abu Garcia 6500 lc

Rating:

Review date: 03-29-2013

Description:  Tahoe Topliners was recently outfitted with Abu Garcia 6500 line counter reels to use and abuse on a daily basis under the stress of charter fishing trips at the tune of 250 plus days a year. While we have used and tested Diawa 27 lc, Shimano Bantam lc, Shimano Tekota lc, Okuma lc reels we have found that the accuracy, dependability, and price point put the Abu 6500 lc on an island alone. A great looking tool that can handle the rigors of daily fishing in all climates on a lake where line capacity and durability are tested daily. We encourage anglers to check them out at the retailers and guarantee that you will not be disappointed. Here are the specs!

Luhr Jensen Krocodile

Rating:

Review date: 07-27-2012

Description:  When it comes to trout spoons there are enough out there to confuse even the most proficient fisherman. Colors, styles, weights, action can really seperate brands but also so closely mimick each other there is hardly a difference. Luhr Jensen Krocodile spoons are still a favorite of mine and we fish 1/4 ounce to 4 oz, standard hammered Nickel to Everglow and UV! Long known to be deadly for truck trout and stocked fish in mountain lakes I am here to attest they fool even the wariest Native Trout. First off pick your size accordingly to match the baitfish in the syatem you intend to fish and bring standard Nickel and Brass colors. I always like to add some oddball colors also! Next study the action next to the boat and learn what troliing speeds or retrevial speeds produce the best action. Lighter line will intensify the action and bring more strike's! Confidnce is key with any offering and play with different sizes and colors until you find what you like. Once your confident in your bait you will become susscessful with them. Now lets get tricky, I often add 3D eyes and flash tape to them, paint some and also ...

Castaic Softbaits.

Review date: 05-17-2012

Description:  Castaic lure company has gone through ownership changes several time the last few years but one thing has stayed the same. These baits catch big fish! My personal favorite is the HARD HEAD series in 6 , 9 , and 12 inch sizes in floating or slow sink! They come prerigged with just one treble hook so I recommend building a harness with wire or 120lb dacron to place a second trailer a little bit back by the tail, this helps with any short strikes. These lure's will have good action at speeds from 2 to 5 mph and with all color choices you can easily match the hatch or even put a wild color out there. I recommend fishing these on at least 15 lb line as they do cost a bit and its a shame when you lose one! I also carry crazy glue with me as at times a few drops will be neede to keep the heads attached to the body. Remember when fishing these to be very persistant and the rewards will eventually come!
