Fenwick HMX

Lake Tahoe Fishing

Tahoe Topliners Sportfishing always attempts to use high quality equipment at an affordable price point. We do this so when clients and anglers who step off the vessel and like what we used can go to purchase with out having sticker shock and to help drive sales for the company’s that help us!

Recently we reviewed the Abu line counter 6500 reels and now its time to talk about what we pair them with! We have chosen the Fenwick HMX rods to use as they are very affordable but high quality and perfect action for our intended use.

We run three models on board

HMX-C66M-F (1274844) 10 1 8 to 20 1/4 to 3/4 6’6″ M F 79.95

The 6’6 model above is perfect for jigging 2 to 3 oz jigs and also ripping in the shallows.

HMX-C76XH-F (1274849) 10 1 10 to 25 1/4 to 1 1/4 7’0″ MH MF 89.99

The 7 ft is great for 4oz jigs or ripping larger lures in the shallows!

HMX-C992ML-MF (1274859) 10 2 6 to 12 1/4 to 3/4 9’9″ ML MF 109.95

The 10 ft HMX is really fun on the Downriggers with a soft tip and great length to really load up and detect all movement from fish, bottom or action of lures.

So far I am impressed at how they have responded to the daily abuse and yet to breakdown in action or feel. Light weight and new school half butt corks lighten the setups and make for very comfortable rods in hand! Teamed with the 6500 lc and Suffix 832 Braid you can see every little wobble of the lure, touch of the fish or feel the change in action or strike!

Now all of the above are not intended as Trout poles or rods but Bass and Stealhead instaed. Because of the nature of the fishing we do here on Tahoe these are what we have chosen but we feel that overall these are fantastic for a multitude of applications. All are very affordable, well made, great looking and readily available. Now before you say there are way better more exspensive setups out there I will agree, but when you have hundreds of different types of anglers and have seen some poles deep sixed to the bottom over the years you will understand our choices! Take a peak over at the Pure Fishing website or the Fenwick site!
