Tahoe Topliners Capt. Mike Nielsen has been Pro Staffing on Rapala for 4 years now and with that we are allowed to test and fish new release products before others. Recently Rapala released the new Scatter Series minows baits in 4 different models, the Minnow, the crankbait, the Shad Rap, and the countdown models. We have been playing with the Countdown and Minnow models and find the new erratic ,evasive action draws strikes 3 to 1 over the standard models. Added to that the release of some new colors and you got the age old dilema of “I gotta have it”!

The lures seem to really come to life at trolling speeds of 3 to 3.5 mph and with our longer Tahoe style long setbacks the F11 Scatter minnow is hitting depths of 12 plus feet. The Ayu pattern is a great sucker fish immitator and has been lethal off the Downriggers for Lakers and also Rainbows.

The CD 7 in Silver/Black with Suffix 832 Braid and 10 lb Flouro leaders and you have a setup for the upcoming California Trout opener that is going to bring full stringers to anglers everywhere. Toss in your favorite scent which for us is Pautzke liquid Krill and its like fishing with dynimite!
